Scott County’s Prayer

[Editor’s Note: The following poem was submitted as McCreary County faces many of the same problems as our neighbors.]

2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV): If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

As we stand before you Lord with our arms held way up high, Our heart and soul is humbled low and tears fill our eyes.

We’re down here praying on our knees please hear our desperate plea, to help this county we truly love and set Scott County free.

Drugs have take over here its gotten out of hand, it’s time we pray together and finally take a stand.

Suicide and drug overdose is at an all time high, but yet we choose to look away shake out heads and sigh.

Jobs are hard to find here cause we only have a few, people are losing their homes and cars and don’t know what to do.

Child abuse cases it will break your heart, the parents need help but where do they start.

Cancer and disease have taken control, theirs people infested we don’t even know.

Scott County is in their own comfort zone sitting in their nice warm homes, not wanting to face what’s outside not wanting to swallow one’s self pride.

If we could walk in someone else’s shoes for a day, we would immediately fall on our knees to pray.

The trials they go through and burdens they face, nights of not sleeping long hours they’ve paced.

Worried if their child will come home, or having enough money to pay their mortgage loan.

Scared that someone will break in and kill or scraping up money to get their next meal.

Lord we should of turned to you at the very first, the things here just keep getting worse.

We’re so glad you save and forgive, and died on the cross so we could all live.

So please forgive us as we’re down on our knees and Thank You Lord for hearing prayers from Scott County Tn.
