Dear Editor,
On March 12, 2012, McCreary Countians celebrated the 100th birthday of McCreary County. It was a grand occasion and time to appreciate the many accomplishments that occurred in the county‚s first century. From that celebration, came another significant milestone — designating November 2, 2012, as McCreary County Centennial Senior Day.
In its senior citizens, the county has a wealth of experience and wisdom.
If you stop to think of all that history, you can’t help being amazed.
A lot has happened since the birth of McCreary County — the sinking of the Titanic, silent movies to talkies, radios, air travel, World Wars I and II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, microwave, computers and so much more.
On November 2, 2012, a brunch was served to honor McCreary county seniors 75 years of age and older. The brunch was hosted by the McCreary County Centennial Committee, McCreary County Historical and Genealogical Society, McCreary County Public Library and McCreary Senior Citizens’ Center.
A big “Thank You” goes out to all the individuals and businesses that contributed to making the brunch a success.
Finally, a special thanks to all of our senior citizens. We appreciate you and your many contributions to McCreary County.
Sincerely,
Kay Morrow, Director
McCreary County Public Library
