Grand jury indicts 9

Plus indictment amended

WHITLEY CITY —  A McCreary County Grand Jury returned indictments against nine individuals last week on a variety of offenses.

    Topping the list is Angela Bustard, 29, of Brockton, MA. Bustard is charged with first-degree Trafficking in a Controlled Substance stemming from an April 21 incident in which she was found with over two grams of Heroin. Kentucky State Police Trooper Craig Reed is in charge of the investigation.

    Russell Wyatt, 28, of Nancy has been indicted for first-degree Possession a Controlled Substance. On March 10, Trp. Reed found Wyatt with one oxycodone tablet.

    Christopher Erbaugh, 25, of Stearns, has been charged with 11 counts of second-degree Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument. Between May 23 and May 30, Erbaugh cashed 11 checks forged with Alice Erbaugh’s signature and totaling $890.

There were also several theft-related indictments in June:

    • Jordan Strunk, 20, Stearns — second-degree Burglary and Theft by Unlawful Taking Under $500. On May 19, Strunk broke into the residence of Gilbert Pryor and stole $135 in cash as well as eight knives.

    • Lisa Strunk, Pine Knot — First-degree Criminal Mischief and Theft by Unlawful Taking Over $500 but Less Than $10,000. On May 1, Strunk caused more than $1,000 in damage to a residence owned by Leroy McKee and took a fuel oil stove.

    • Thomas R. Burdine, 18, no address given — Theft by Unlawful Taking Over $500 but Less Than $10,000. On May 16, Burdine took a 1993 Yamaha Timber Wolf four-wheeler belonging to Boyd Rowe.

    • Fred Bryant, 32, and Roscoe Bryant, 37, both of Pine Knot — Theft by Unlawful Taking Over $500 but Less Than $10,000. On May 24, the Bryants took a propane fuel tank belonging to Sandy Polson. Roscoe Bryant has been additionally charged as a first-degree Persistent Felony Offender, having been convicted of theft-related charges in 2006 and 2008.

    • Michael J. Doran, 32, Stearns — Theft By Unlawful Taking Over $500 But Less than $10,000 and second-degree Persistent Felony Offender. On May 21, Doran took six heating and air units belonging to Greater Air Systems of Kentucky. Doran was previously convicted of burglary and theft charges in 2005.

    In other news, a superceding indictment was filed on June 18 to amend charges against Richard Marion, 41, of Strunk, and Samuel Large, 31, of Knoxville. Both men were indicted in May in connection to several reported robberies in the Pine Knot and Stearns area on May 15.

    A Theft by Unlawful Taking count was removed from Marion’s case while Criminal Complicity to Burglary First Degree and Criminal Complicity to Robbery First Degree were added to Large’s.

  • County budget passes 1st reading

    WHITLEY CITY  — Topping the agenda for the May meeting of McCreary County Fiscal Court last Tuesday was the first reading of the 2013-14 county budget.
        At $7.65 million, this budget is down more than $650,000 from last year’s $8.3 million budget.
