Coroner’s license suspended

SOMERSET — McCreary County Coroner Brandon New has lost his driver's license fol-lowing arraignment in Pulaski District Court last week.

New, 26, pled not guilty to first-offense DUI, first- and third-degree possession of con-trolled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, and prescription not in proper container. The charges stem from his November 29 arrest on Blue John Road when he was discovered unconscious in a county-owned Chevrolet Suburban.

Though not convicted, New's license was suspended as a result of the hearing. His next scheduled appearance in a Pulaski courtroom is February 12.

The coroner was arrested locally on DUI-related charges last September following a traffic stop. He is scheduled to stand trial in McCreary District Court on January 7.

Deputy Coroner Daniel Ridener has been authorized to use the Suburban as the Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo) — through which the county is insured — won't cover New due to the pending charges.
