Car used in robbery found

Vehicle used in Wayne hold-up abandoned here

WHITLEY CITY — At press time, authorities from around the region were on the lookout for two men suspected in a Wayne County armed robbery.

As they were responding to a domestic violence call at approximately 11 a.m. Monday morning. McCreary County deputy sheriffs Joe Horne and Tom Smith discovered on Strunk Ridge Road an abandoned Nissan Sentra which matched the description of a vehicle stolen from the Hair Den in Monticello.

According to Monticello Police Detective Derek Lester, the robbery occurred about two hours earlier when two males (described as “tall and slender” and “short and stocky”) entered the salon brandishing at least one handgun and took cash as well as the vehicle. During the course of the robbery, the store owner suffered a broken ankle and minor lacerations.

Authorities have one person of interest, who was seen hitching a ride near the Southern Express at the US 27/Strunk Ridge intersection to Burnside.
