A second suspect has been charged in connection to the October 20 burglary at the Rite Aid pharmacy in Whitley City.
According to McCreary County Sheriff’s Detective David Sampson, 32-year-old Bret Derrick Crozier of Richmond was picked up by the Kentucky Department of Probation and Parole Thursday afternoon and lodged in the Madison County Jail after Sampson had secured an arrest warrant based on information uncovered during the course of the investigation.
Crozier, originally from Pulaski County, is an associate of 38-year-old David L. Debord — the Eubank man who was arrested at the scene of the crime.
Det. Sampson said the burglars accessed the store through the back, where officers found bolts had been removed. The electricity had been cut and wiring stripped as well. The pharmacy window had been broken and the safe had been broken into. Apparently the job was interrupted by officers arriving at approximately 5:30 a.m., Sampson said, as “thousands of pills” were left outside.
Debord was caught hiding in the woods between Rite Aid and Forcht Bank.
Both men have been charged with 3rd-degree burglary, theft of a controlled substance and first-degree criminal mischief. Det. Sampson told the Record that he will be presenting the case to the local grand jury next month.
The detective added that Rite-Aid’s inventory indicated that all controlled substances had been recovered.
