LONDON —
After a two game home stand that included their first win of the season the McCreary Central Raiders went back on the road Friday night traveling to London to face the North Laurel Jaguars.
The trip would end with the Raiders falling for the third time this season as North Laurel won 45-8.
McCreary was fighting an uphill battle all evening after starting the game with a penalty on the first snap and then fumbling the ball away on the first play of thier second possession.
North Laurel was quick to take advantage of the Raider mistakes scoring their first touchdown with 8:28 left in the first quarter and then after the Raider turnover gave them the ball back just 12 yards from the endzone scoring again despite getting flagged four times for penaltys, two of which brought back touchdown runs.
The Jaguars would add another score before the end of the opening quarter and then after another Raider turnover they would reach the endzone again on the first play of the second period to make the score 28-0.
North would push the lead to 38-0 with 1:33 left in the first half when sophomore Keaton Kennedy booted the ball through the uprights from 47 yards away.
The Jaguars would add yet another score in the final seconds when the Raiders were forced to punt of fourth down after an incomplete pass of third and eleven stopped the clock. A high snap to punter Corey Ball prevented him from getting off the kick and he instead heaved a desperation pass downfield that was picked off and ran all the way back for a touchdown with just :11 left on the clock to make the halftime score 45-0.
During a quick moving second half McCreary would get their only score of the night when sophomore quarterback Dylan Cooper hit Noah Duncan down the right sideline for a 35 yard touchdown reception with 8:47 left to play in the game. Cooper would add on two points when he ran in the conversion attempt to make the score 45-8 which would end up being the final.
This Friday the Raiders travel to Leslie County to face the 2-2 Eagles who lost 42-13 at Williamsburg on Friday night.
The Raiders won 34-18 on their last trip to Leslie County in 2010 but fell at home to the Eagles 26-6 last year to begin a seven game winning streak for Leslie that included a win over Middlesboro in the opening round of the state 2A playoffs.
The following week, September 21, the Raiders return home to Norm Parsons field to face Casey County in what is shaping up to be a battle for a playoff spot.
