STEARNS —
On a night when a lot could be written about shooting performances it was McCreary junior Josh Gregory who stole the headlines with a 37 point career high night which led McCreary to an 82-73 win over a Madison Southern team that had handed the Raiders a loss in their season opener by the same nine point margin 65-56.
Besides Gregory’s standout performance McCreary put up some other impressive numbers in the contest such as hitting an amazing 24 of 30 two point field goals for a unheard of 80%. The Raiders were also pretty solid behind the three point arc where they hit 7-15 for 47%. Overall from the floor McCreary was 31-45 for 69% but the struggle continues from the free throw line where they hit just 13-26 attempts for 50%.
Luckily such a good shooting night came when they would need it as McCreary had to overcome a Madison Southern team that knocked down 13 three pointers including seven from junior guard Tyler Abshear who finished with 29 points.
Southern jumped out to a hot start hitting a trio of three pointers to take a 9-5 lead but McCreary roared back with a 9-0 run, getting the final seven points from Gregory, to take a 14-9 lead. Abshear connected for another Eagle three pointer to start a 4-0 run but the Raiders would close the quarter with ten more unanswered points to take a 24-13 lead at the break.
McCreary extended the run to open the second period as senior Brad Corder knocked down his third three pointer of the game to put McCreary up 27-13. The Raiders would lead by as much as fifteen points on three different occasions in the period but Abshear three point shooting kept the Eagles from falling too far behind. he would hit three three pointers in the final 1:41 including on e at the buzzer to cut McCreary’s lead to 47-35 at the half.
Southern would cut the lead to nine points where it would stay for most of the third quarter until Raider senior Dylan Strunk hit a three pointer that started a 7-0 run to end the period. Gregory scored the final two baskets inside of the final minute to extend McCreary’s lead to 68-52 heading to the final frame.
In the final quarter the Eagles were never able to get any closer than seven points despite McCreary misfiring on eight of their first twelve free throws in the period. With just under a minute to go a three point attempt that would have cut the lead to just five points rattled out and the Raiders were able to push the lead back to eleven points before a final basket by Southern trimmed the final margin to nine at 82-73.
Gregory also pulled down 8 rebounds to go along with his 37 points but he would end up just 7-13 from the line. Brad Corder finished with 15 points and Dylan Strunk 14.

In the final frame the Warriors continued to pull away adding another eleven points to their lead to take an 82-49 victory which improved their district record to 5-0 and dropped the Raiders to 1-3.
