BEREA —
The Raider hoops team took to the road the past week but the road wasn't kind to them as they fell on Monday night at Madison Southern and then after being postponed a day traveled to Southwestern where things just got worse.
On Monday offensive struggles in the first half put the Raiders into a hole to deep to overcome. McCreary managed just two first quarter baskets to go along with four free throws and trailed the Eagles 20-8 by the end of the period.
A ten point quarter by sophomore Kyle Tucker in the second helped the Raiders improve somewhat but Madison Southern was still able to extend the lead to 42-21 by the half.
From there the Raiders were able to play relatively even, getting outscored by just a point the rest of the way but they were never able to make a serious run to get back into the game.
Madison Southern led 61-39 starting the fourth quarter and cruised to a 78-56 win, their second of the season over the Raiders who they beat just 66-59 to open the season.
Kyle Tucker’s 16 points led McCreary who placed only one other player in double figures, Tyler Strunk who had 11.
On Friday the Raiders boarded the bus again but with an even tougher task awaiting them in defending region champ and one of the top three contenders for this years crown Southwestern.
Already facing an uphill struggle McCreary was quickly doomed by the hot shooting Warriors who scored their first five field goals from beyond the three point line.
After taking a 31-10 lead in the first quarter they continued to singe the nets in the second hitting four more from long range to extend the lead by nine despite a solid offensive output of 18 point by the Raiders in the period. Noah Duncan scored six points in the period and Tyler Strunk five but the Raiders missed on half of their twelve free throw attempts.
Southwestern would keep on firing in the third quarter with four more three pointers and extend the lead to 84-39 before giving way to some reserves in the final period and ending the game with a 90-58 win. Eighty of the Warriors ninety points came from the five starters.
Southwestern finished the contest shooting a red hot 58% from behind the three point line hitting 14 of 24 attempts.
Senior Noah Duncan led McCreary in scoring with 16 points while fellow senior Cody Ross had 14.
