STEARNS —
Southwestern reeled off their thirteenth win in sixteen games in relatively easy fashion Friday night as McCreary was out gunned from the start before losing leading scorer and rebounder Tyson Williams to an injury late in the first quarter.
Southwestern opened with a three pointer and then added tow more after a Raider basket by Ryan Strunk.
The Warriors pushed the lead to 13-2 before McCreary’s second score of the game and final one of the opening quarter on a layup by Josh Gregory.
McCreary’s uphill battle became quite a bit steeper when Williams fell to the floor after battling for an offensive rebound late in the quarter. Williams would leave the game and not return but was able to softly jog on the sideline prior to halftime.
McCreary ended the quarter allowing yet another buzzer beating three pointer which gave the Warriors a 22-4 lead at the break.
McCreary would get the deficit down to ten at 18-8 as Gregory scored four points early in the second period but with the score 25-10 Southwestern would go on a 17-0 run to close out the half holding McCreary scoreless for the final 5:07 of the period to take a 42-10 lead to the locker room.
Things would get no better for the Raiders who would trail 60-20 at the end of the third period and would trail by as much as 62-40 early in the fourth before finishing the game with a 16-12 run to trim the final margin back to 74-36.
The loss drops Central to 0-2 in district play and 7-8 overall.
Nine different players scored for McCreary but none were able to reach double figures. Josh Gregory’s 7 points led the way while Brad Corder and Matt Whitehead added five each.
McCreary will try to get back into the win column tonight as they play at Monticello.
