STEARNS —
The Lady Raider Volleyball team got their week started on a positive note by handily beating Lynn Camp in three straight sets last Monday evening at McCreary Central.
McCreary dominated the action from the beginning winning the opening set 25-12. Only the middle set of the three was a reasonably close contest as Lynn Camp battled before eventually falling 25-19.
The Lady Raiders then got rolling again in the final set scoring on numerous service aces in a 25-11 romp that improved their record to 9-2 on the season.
The competition would get substantially tougher in the Lady Raiders next match however as Southwestern paid a visit to McCreary Central for the first time in several years. McCreary last faced the Lady Warriors in the semifinal round of the 2009 12 Region Tournament falling 0-2 as Southwestern was on their way to the second of what is currently four straight 12 Region Championships.
Thursday’s match was a solid indication that the Lady Warriors are again a contender, if not the favorite, for another state tournament trip as they knocked off the Lady Raiders 3-0 winning 25-15, 25-6 and 25-13.
The loss drops McCreary to 9-3 on the season but all three losses have come against district rivals. Two against Wayne Co. and the loss to the Lady Warriors.
McCreary will host Garrard Co. on Thursday and then Jellico on Monday, Sept 10 before playing three consecutive district match ups.
