Creekmore, Kentucky

My name is Bryne (Brian) Creekmore, the son of Bobby F. Creekmore and the grandson of Francis A. Creekmore who owned a store in what then was called Creekmore, KY. A few years back, I returned to the area on Hayes Creek where my Grandpa's general store had once stood.  On the spot where the store had burned down many years ago, I noticed some stones that were still standing together.  I realized that this had once been a part of the original foundation.  I noticed a stone that resembled the shape of Kentucky.  Knowing that my Grandpa Creekmore had placed it there so many years ago made it even more special. Looking at the spot where the old store once stood, you would never know that anything was ever there.  This store was the gathering place of that area back in the 1950's and 60's.  My Grandpa was the Post Master General then and sold just about anything you needed to get along in life.  This was a magical place for me as a child when we would drive down from Indiana for weekend visits.  Many of the local folk would sit around the cherry red potbelly stove swapping hunting stories and drinking a cold pop.  In my mind, I can still see a fuzzy-headed youngen with eyes wide open taking in all the tales the old timers would tell!  I also hear tell of some folks coming around to pick bluegrass tunes out on the gravel parking area at evening time under the only street light for miles. Nowadays, with our fast-paced lives and hurried-up lifestyles, it would be hard to find such a place of magic and good times.  These memories are what makes one's life richer as the thoughts keep you company on dark rainy winters’ night.
