Silas Sumner

Silas Sumner, of Forest Park, GA.,formerly of McCreary County, KY., passed away on September 11, 2012. Mr. Sumner, Army Veteran, fought in WWII. He was awarded 4 bronze stars. He also fought in the Battle for the Rhine River, the Battle of the Bulge, and the Battle of Normandy, was a gunnery sergeant on a 50 cal. anti-aircraft gun, guarded Hitlers SS Troups in Lenz, Austria, and he participated in the 20,000 man march; A true American hero. Services were held at Ash Street Baptist Church on Friday, September 14, 2012 at 11:00am. Dr. J. Murray Edwards was officiating. Interment followed at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens.

Preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Sally Sumner. Survivors include his daughters, Lynn Luetkemeyer and Paula Choate both of Forest Park, Ga., son, Ken Sumner(Sandy) of Cedartown, Ga., sister, Billie Faye Sumner of Plattsmith, NE; brother, Richard P. Sumner(Wilma) of Bellevue, NE; 4 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
