“WATTS For 3” (thousand)

McCreary Central standout senior Aaron Watts joined an exclusive club among high school athletics in the Raiders final regular season game when he scored his 3,000 career point.

The 6’2” guard who had led McCreary in scoring each season since he was an 8th grader knocked down a three pointer from the top of the key with 5:01 left in the fourth quarter of Friday’s win over Lexington Dunbar to eclipse the 3,000 point mark according to the Raider coaching staff.

Watt’s joins former McCreary County High School All-Stater Tim Stephens as the only two McCreary County hoops stars to join the small list of about thirty players who have reached that mark in Kentucky High School Basketball History. Stephens scored 3,211 points from 1973-76 and is listed 13th on the all time scorers list. According to the KHSAA.org basketball records page only 29 players are listed as having scored 3,000 points but it is known that there are a few more that are not documented due to schools not reporting their stats to the KHSAA.

In addition to earning his way onto the all time scorers list Watts will most likely make the all time list’s in most free throws and three pointers made in a career.
