Raiders Claim Top Spot in District Tourney Seeding
With a 75-47 win at Monticello last Wednesday the McCreary Central Raiders wrapped up the number one spot in the 48th District regular season standings.
The win gave McCreary a 5-0 mark in district play with only one game, at Wayne County, left to play.
The Raiders game at Wayne County has now been postponed by weather twice after the Friday night snowstorm prevented the teams from tipping off Saturday night.
A date to make up this weekend’s postponment has not yet been set.
With the top seed going into the tournament McCreary will face Monticello in the opening round with the winner gaining an automatic entry in the 12th Region tournament which will be played at Pulaski County High School.
Monticello is currently winless in district play with only one game left against Wayne County and is already guaranteed to finish last in the district race regardless of the outcome against the Cards.
Wayne and Southwestern are still trying to settle the second and third seed between themselves but that battle is esentially only for the right to be listed as the home team when the two face off in the opening round of the district tournament.
In Wednesday’s game McCreary got off to a somewhat slow start and led the Trojans by only four points, 15-11 at the end of the first quarter.
The Raiders were able to shift into high gear through the middle quarters though outscoring Monticello 23-6 in the second and then expanding the 38-18 halftime lead with a 22-13 advantage in the third to make the score 60-30 going into the final period of play.
Senior Zack Roark led McCreary with 23 points while Ben Wright and Jacob Dixon added 15 each to help the Raiders improve to a regional best 16-5 and 11-1 against teams from within the 12th Region.
