STEARNS —
A spell of winter weather put the Lady Raiders contest at district co-leader Southwestern on hold Friday for a week. The contest has been rescheduled for this Friday when the two teams will face off for the top spot in the district standings.
Both McCreary Central and Southwestern would have come into the contest last Friday with identical 3-1 records in district play but with the postponement the Lady Raiders will have played what would have been their final district contest at Monticello last night (Monday).
In addition to winning at Southwestern the Lady Raiders must also come away with a win at Monticello to assure themselves of earning the number one seed. A win in both of those contest would give McCreary a 5-1 district record while the loss by Southwestern would be thier second in district play thus giving the Lady Raiders the outright lead and thus the top seed regardless of Southwestern’s outcome in their final district game, also at Monticello.
If the Lady Warriors are victorious on Friday then McCreary will have to settle for a second place finish regardless of the final game between Southwestern and Monticello.
The team ending up with the number one seed will face Monticello in the opening round of the 48th District Tournament while the number two team will face Wayne County who has completed their district slate with a 3-3 record. The Lady Cardinals won twice over Monticello, split two games with Southwestern and lost both contests against McCreary.
Should the Lady Raiders beat Southwestern but have lost at Monticello last night they would end in a 4-2 tie with the first tie breaker, results in head-to-head match ups, also tied with one win each. The next tie breaker is wins on the road which would be won by Southwestern if they win at Monticello on February 5.
Southwestern defeated Monticello 67-23 on December 4.
