PINE KNOT —
With the abbreviated summer vacation for McCreary County students nearing an end many of those have already gone back to school to begin preparing for the soon approaching fall athletic seasons.
Friday afternoon the McCreary Elementary Football Program took their first step toward the upcoming season as players turned in the sports physical forms that are required to play and in return left with thier helmet and a jersey for practice which was scheduled to begin yesterday.
Head Coach Aaron Anderson was very pleased at the turnout of approximately 47 players from third through sixth grade that will fill out the “A” (5th and 6th grade) and “B” (3rd and 4th grade) teams.. “To have this many come out three weeks before school starts is incredible” said Anderson. “ We will get another 10 to 15 when school starts so to have this many this early is really great”.
Practice for the youth teams will be in helmets and shorts for this first week followed by two weeks in full pads before thier first game in August 24th. Practice will be on weekdays except Wednesday’s from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Pine Knot Intermediate School.
Each team will play a six game schedule against teams in the Whitley County Elementary league as they did last year.
The McCreary “A” and “B” teams lost only once each last season vs. the competition from Whitley County.
Any student who would like to be a part of the McCreary Elementary program should contact Aaron Anderson at 376-2591. Prospective players are urged not to wait until school begins because they would miss a full two-thirds of the important preseason practices.
