Waters scores 1,000 Point at Union College

BARBOURVILLE —   Former McCreary Central star Lindsey Waters became the 16th  Union College womens basketball player to join the 1,000 point club on Wednesday, January 16th in a win at Point University (Georgia).

Waters came into the contest eight points shy of the mark and scored ten in the contest to end the game with 1,002 points.  She became only the third player in Lady Bulldog history to reach the mark in just her second season at Union and she tied the record for reaching 1,000 points the quickest doing so in just her 51st game as a Lady Bulldog.

After spending a season each at Eastern Kentucky University and Lindsey Wilson where she scored a combined 406 points Waters transferred to Union last year and led the team in scoring  at 20.7 ppg and rebounding with 11.1 per game and also blocking a team high 82 shots.  She ended the season with 683 total points eclipsing the 1,000 point mark for her college career along the way.  Her outstanding season earned her Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors as well as a spot as a  NAIA 2nd team All-American.  She was also named to the conference’s All-Defensive team as well as the All-Academic team.

So far this season Waters is averaging 16.9 points per game and just over 9 rebounds per contest and is third in the conference with 68 blocked shots.

Waters 10 points against Point was her season low point total until the following game in which she suffered an ankle injury early in the contest and finished with just three points.  She has missed the last two Union games recovering from that injury.

She has recorded six double-double’s this season and missed a triple double by two blocked shots against Tennessee Temple when finished with 29 points, 15 rebounds and 8 blocked shots.

Waters graduated form McCreary Central in 2007 as the schools all time leading scorer with 2,074 points which still stands as the Lady Raiders record.
