STANFORD —
With an 8-12 record McCreary Central traveled to Lincoln County Tuesday looking to inch closer to the .500 mark against a Patriot team with a similar 9-12 mark.
Lincoln however had posted eight wins in their last twelve outings after starting the season off with a 1-8 record with three of thier losses coming in close games to some of the top teams in the region. The Patriots lost by one point to now 18-6 East Jessamine, two points to West Jessamine who is now 13-7 suffered just a four point loss at Pulaski County who is now 16-5.
Lincoln County came out firing from long range and hit two three pointers within the first minute of the game while Kyle Tucker scored twice for McCreary.
A third three pointer of the quarter at the 4:06 mark gave Lincoln a 13-4 lead but McCreary would close the gap to 13-8 on a three point play by senior Cody Ross.
After the Patriots pushed the lead back out to 17-8 the Raiders were able to convert a pair of turnovers into points as Josh Gregory scored twice to cut the lead to 17-12 inside the final minute.
Trailing by just five with the first period nearing its end McCreary’s hopes began to fade as Lincoln’s Neil Conley connected for the fourth Patriot three pointer with just eight seconds left in the period to give Lincoln a 20-12 lead at the break.
The Patriot momentum from the end of the first quarter carried over into the second as Conley delivered again from three point range following a Raider turnover on the first possession of the quarter.
Lincoln would go on to hold McCreary scoreless for the first 3:52 of the period. By that time they had added another ten unanswered points to stretch their lead to 33-12.
After a put back by Tucker to stop the run Lincoln added their sixth and seventh three pointers of the first half to extend the lead to 39-14.
The patriots would end the half with a 41-16 lead over the injury riddled Raiders who dressed only eight players for the game and were without two starters and a head coach who also missed the game due to an injury suffered earlier in the season.
In the third period things didn’t get any better as Lincoln started the half with a 19-6 run to extend the lead to 60-22 with two minutes left in the third period.
The Raiders would end the quarter with a 13-2 run started off by Kyle Tucker who scored five straight points of his team high 14. Josh Gregory would score seven points in the final 1:16 to help trim the deficit back to 62-35 entering the fourth period.
The Patriots would again extend the lead to start off the final period pushing the advantage out to as much as 79-38 after back to back three pointers coming with just under four minutes remaining.
McCreary would close th gap back to 25 by the end of the contest though ending the game with a 17-1 run making the final score 80-55.
Kyle Tucker’s 14 points led McCreary while Josh Gregory added 11.
McCreary’s scheduled game at Monticello on Friday was postponed due to the inclement weather and had not been rescheduled as of press time.
