The McCreary Cental Wrestling team placed five competitors among the top four of their respective weight classes Saturday at the Region 8 meet at Wayne County.
Those five qualify to participate in the State Wrestling Tournament which will begin on Thursday afternoon at the Frankfort Civic Center.
Those to qualify were
-Nathaniel Clark who finished third in the 112 lb. weight class beating JT Siler of Whitley County 12-9.
-David Phillips who finished fourth at 130 lb.
-Tyler Lawson, fourth place at 135 lb.
-Larry Sammons, fourth place at 140 lb.
-Preston Shoopman who finished as runner-up to J.J. Jude of Johnson Central after a 7-3 loss in the 160 lb. class.
Four other McCreary wrestlers finished fifth in the regional competition and will be listed as an alternate at the State Tournament. Those individuals are Vince Lewis at 125 lb., D.J. Parriman at 145 lb., Jeremy Jones at 171 lb. and Cody Smith in the 285 lb. class. In the event one of the competitors from their weight class could not participate the alternates will be used to fill in the empty slot in the bracket.
