CELINA, OH —
Three members of a family with McCreary County ties were killed last week near Dayton, Ohio.
Regina Spradlin (formerly of McCreary County), her daughter-in-law Bethany and grandson Jordan died last Tuesday as a result of a two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 10:45 a.m. on US 127 where it intersects with US 33 north of Celina in Mercer County.
Authorities determined that Regina Spradlin was driving an eastbound 2000 Ford Focus on US 33 when she ran a red light and was struck by a northbound 2005 Peterbilt truck, driven by Troy A. Brown, 34, of Lone Rock, Wisconsin.
Regina D. Spradlin, 50, of Rockford, OH, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her daughter-in-law — 25-year-old Bethany R. Spradlin of St. Marys, OH — was transported to a hospital in nearby Lima where she was pronounced dead at 12:17 p.m. The young mother’s two sons — Jordan Jacob Spradlin, 3, and Gabriel Malachi Spradlin, 4 — were transported to Van Wert County Hospital where Jordan later died.
Little Gabriel was transferred to a hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he remains in fair condition according to WHIO.
The truck driver was transported to Mercer Health Hospital in Coldwater.
Funeral services for the family were held yesterday morning at Sidney Baptist Church.
Better known as Jeanie, Regina Spradlin was the daughter of the late Walter and Jenny (Herald) Slavey of Roundtop. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Curtis G. Spradlin (originally from Pine Knot) as well as two sons, Joshua and Gabriel, and four grandchildren.
She is also survived by four sisters — Donna Daugherty and Diane Burchfield of Strunk, Rita Strunk of Nicholasville and Debbie Burkhart of Sidney, OH — in addition to many other relatives and friends.
