Cundiff honored by national industry magazine

WHITLEY CITY —     WHITLEY CITY — A leading magazine for the grocery industry has honored a McCreary Countian.

Sandra Cundiff, store manager for Kroger in Whitley City, was named one of Progressive Grocer’s 2010 Top Women in Grocery in June.

“Sandra is a great leader and a role model for all of us at Kroger,” President John Hackett stated. “In addition to being a successful businesswoman, Sandra is a compassionate supervisor and she cares deeply about the community. She is most deserving of this prestigious award. Sandra and her store team have always made me proud. This recognition simply reinforces what most of us at Kroger already knew about Sandra.”

Cundiff began her career as a cashier in 1974 and ultimate became an independent operator. When U-Save was acquired by Kroger in October 1995, she stayed with the company — keeping an emphasis on customer service.

“No matter how hard we strive to be our best, we will never be perfect in the eyes of every single person,” Cundiff told the magazine. “What customers do expect is for us to fix things that go wrong, and that is where we strive to be perfect.”

That philosophy has made Cundiff recognition a role model in the Mid-South Division of Kroger and is taken to heart by everyone at the local store. Her front end associates earned a 100 percent score in a recent mystery shopper audit and the team has a running record of 1,595 accident-free workdays.

In addition to her regular duties, Cundiff is often sought after for speaking engagements regarding customer service. She has also been active in civic events such as Relay For Life.

“It is a great honor,” Cundiff said of her feature in Progressive Grocer, “but I couldn’t have done it without my team.”

Progressive Grocer will recognize its honorees at their fourth annual gala, to be held this year in Washington, D.C. on November 11.
