WHITLEY CITY —
One of the county’s best known citizens has passed.
Robert Scottie Morris, 70, passed away Friday at Cumberland Nursing and Rehab in Somerset following a prolonged illness.
Known to all as Scottie, he served as butcher and helped operate Morris Grocery — a Main Street fixture for several decades before it moved to Whitley City Plaza out on U.S. 27.
After the grocery closed, Morris worked as a deputy sheriff and became one of the first courthouse security officers once the courthouse renovation was completed in 2001. He often served as Circuit Court Bailiff.
Morris was also a Kentucky Colonel as well as a member of the American Legion and Whitley City Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert C. and Lois Ann Ballou Morris.
Funeral services will be held today (January 29) at 11 a.m. at the McCreary County Funeral Home. Complete obituary information will appear in next week’s edition.
