Sony Temporarily Lowers Price of PlayStation 5 in Several Countries
Sony has announced a temporary price drop for the PlayStation 5 (PS5) in certain regions, including the U.K., Ireland, Germany, Austria, and India. This move aligns with earlier reports of a $50 price reduction for the PS5 in the United States.
In the U.K. and Ireland, the PS5 is now discounted by £75, bringing its price down to £404.99 until August 10th. Similarly, in Germany and Austria, customers can purchase the console for €75 less, at a price of €474.99 until August 7th.
Interestingly, the PS5 Digital Edition does not appear to be included in these discounts. This version of the console does not feature a disc drive and is sold at a lower price than the standard edition.
Speculations are starting to circulate that Sony’s decision to lower the PS5’s price may indicate an upcoming release of a lower-cost version of the console. Rumors suggest this new version could potentially include a detachable disc drive, making it more affordable for gamers.
In addition to this price drop, Sony recently announced that it has sold 40 million PS5 consoles worldwide since its launch in 2020. The company falls slightly behind its predecessor, the PlayStation 4, in terms of sales pace.
Sony is also offering a bundle that includes the highly anticipated game, God of War Ragnarök, with the standard PS5.
The PS5 was initially launched in the U.S. in November 2020, with the standard version priced at $499.99 and the PS5 Digital Edition priced at $399.99.
It is worth noting that in August 2022, Sony increased the prices of both PS5 models in various territories, except for the United States, citing high inflation rates and adverse currency trends.
Currently, PlayStation’s summer sale is underway, featuring a wide range of discounted games and a curated list of the best PS5 accessories available.
These recent developments are sure to excite gaming enthusiasts who have been eagerly awaiting an opportunity to get their hands on the critically acclaimed PS5 at a more affordable price.
