Former President Donald Trump’s fundraising efforts have picked up in February, with his campaign and Save America political action committee raising a combined $15.9 million. However, Trump’s political operation is still struggling to keep up with President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party in terms of fundraising.
Despite this, Trump solidified his position as the front-runner for the Republican nomination by winning primary contests in Nevada and New Hampshire in February. This has made the chances of any Republican challenger overtaking him in the presidential race slim.
In contrast, Biden’s political operation raised an impressive $53 million in February, with $155 million on hand. The campaign ended the month with $71 million on hand in the main campaign account, putting them in a strong position for the upcoming election season.
One factor affecting Trump’s fundraising efforts is the significant amount of money being spent on legal fees. Trump’s Save America committee has already spent $8.5 million on legal fees so far this year, with the committee bearing the bulk of these expenses.
Notably, Trump’s February numbers did not include any fundraising with the Republican National Committee. However, his political team took over the cash-strapped RNC and installed a new leadership team, paving the way for joint fundraising operations to be set up this week.
Overall, Trump’s fundraising efforts are gaining momentum, but he still faces challenges in catching up to Biden and the Democratic Party. With the presidential race heating up, both candidates are ramping up their fundraising efforts to secure a strong financial position for the upcoming election.
