Qualcomm Unveils New Snapdragon X Plus Chip for Windows PCs
Qualcomm has recently announced the launch of the Snapdragon X Plus, a more affordable version of the Snapdragon X Elite chip designed for ARM-powered Windows machines. The new chip is based on the same Oryon CPU as the Elite but with 10 cores instead of 12, and a slightly lower clock speed of 3.4GHz compared to 3.8GHz.
In a recent multi-threaded CPU benchmark, the Snapdragon X Plus outperformed Apple’s M3 chip by about 10%. Additionally, the chip is more power efficient compared to traditional x86 chips, using 54% less power at peak performance compared to the Intel Core Ultra 7155H.
The Qualcomm Oryon CPU in the Snapdragon X Plus delivers up to 37% faster CPU performance compared to competitors. The chip also matches the Elite in NPU performance, making it ideal for AI applications in Windows PCs.
Qualcomm has hinted that the Plus chip will be priced more aggressively, making the technology accessible to a wider range of users. While no specific laptops have been announced with the Snapdragon X Plus or Elite, more details are expected to be revealed in mid-2024. Microsoft is likely to adopt the new chips in upcoming Surface hardware.
Overall, the introduction of the Snapdragon X Plus chip represents a significant advancement in technology for Windows PCs, offering improved performance and power efficiency at a more affordable price point. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development.
