A Multifaceted Weather System Hits the Northeast and New England Region
The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for areas along the Delaware River in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware as a powerful weather system sweeps through the Northeast and New England regions. New England and its surrounding areas are facing wintry weather with over a foot of snow expected in some areas. Maine is particularly at risk, with the National Weather Service warning of a treacherous travel day due to ice inland and snow/sleet falling.
Forecasters predict that western Maine, the White Mountains, and the lakes region of New Hampshire could see one to two feet of snow accumulation. Meanwhile, areas like Connecticut, New York City, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts are expected to experience heavy rain, with the storm’s peak expected in the late afternoon and evening. Cape Cod and Nantucket may see lingering rain until midnight.
Sunday is forecasted to bring dry weather and sunshine, but with blustery and chilly temperatures. However, there is a threat of flooding in far southern New Hampshire, with the potential for flooded rivers in Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts. Flood watches have been issued for Connecticut and some parts of New York.
This intense weather system follows winter weather advisories in Montana, the Dakotas, Minnesota, Illinois, and Wisconsin. The wild winter weather in the region has been characterized by a blast of snow and freezing rain. Interestingly, this comes after record heat in February in some areas of the Northeast, showcasing the drastic weather changes the region has experienced recently. Stay safe and stay informed as the weather continues to evolve.
