Neil Young has made headlines for his decision to return his music to Spotify after a hiatus of more than two years. The iconic musician had previously removed his entire catalogue from the streaming platform in protest against Joe Rogan’s podcast, which was accused of spreading misinformation about Covid vaccines.
Young had called Spotify the “home of life-threatening Covid misinformation” and insisted that they could have Rogan or Young, but not both. This move prompted Spotify executives, as well as Rogan himself, to issue apologies for the controversy. As a result, Rogan’s podcast is no longer exclusive to the platform.
The legendary singer-songwriter also cited the presence of similar misinformation on other platforms such as Apple and Amazon as a reason for his return to Spotify. However, Young did not hesitate to criticize Spotify for its low-quality playback, instead directing his fans towards high-definition alternative streaming services.
Despite his return to Spotify, Neil Young remains outspoken on various issues and has a reputation for taking stands against companies like X (formerly Twitter) and Ticketmaster. Currently, he is gearing up for a tour with his band Crazy Horse and the release of a live album recorded in November. Additionally, Young recently released a collection of material recorded with Crazy Horse and an album of solo acoustic rerecordings of older songs.
Fans of Neil Young can now rejoice as his music returns to Spotify, offering them a chance to enjoy his iconic catalogue once again.
