Former Coldplay Manager Sues Band for £10 Million Unpaid Commission
In a dramatic twist of events, Coldplay, the globally renowned British band, is being sued by their former manager, Dave Holmes, for an enormous sum of £10 million ($12 million). Holmes alleges that the band failed to pay him the agreed-upon commission for their tenth and eleventh albums.
Having managed Coldplay for over two decades, Holmes recently split from the band and presented his case in the U.K. High Court. Court documents reveal that Coldplay promised Holmes a contract concerning their upcoming albums, on which he was entitled to receive commission. Unfortunately, according to Holmes, the band reneged on this agreement.
The alleged dispute centers around a staggering £35 million ($44 million) advance payment for Coldplay’s unreleased tenth album, and an additional £30 million ($38 million) allocated for their eleventh and twelfth albums. Holmes firmly believes that he should have received commission for these projects.
Throughout his tenure as their manager, Holmes was involved in handling logistics for the band’s album production, recording, and tours. However, he claims that Coldplay attempted to demote him from the position of manager to that of head of touring.
Seeking justice, Holmes has brought the matter before the court, requesting a declaration that the original contract is valid and demanding payment of the outstanding commission owed to him.
Coldplay’s legal team, on the other hand, has voiced their intention to file a counterclaim alongside their defense. A spokesperson for the band argued that Holmes’ management contract expired at the end of 2022, and they decided not to renew it. They categorically deny the allegations made against them by Holmes.
However, Holmes’ lawyer stands firm, asserting that Coldplay is disregarding their obligation to honor the management contract and pay the owed amount. The battle between the band and their former manager is anticipated to escalate as both sides defend their positions in court.
Fans of Coldplay and music enthusiasts worldwide eagerly await the outcome of this heated legal dispute, anxious to see it resolved in a fair and just manner.
