Title: Barbie Continues to Dominate Box Office, Becoming Second-Highest Grossing Warner Bros. Film

[McCreary County Record] – In a surprising turn of events, the film “Barbie” has maintained its reign over the box office, outperforming even highly-anticipated releases like “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” Box office records reveal that “Barbie” has grossed an estimated $33.7 million in its fourth weekend, securing its spot as the ninth-biggest fourth weekend of all time.

The success of “Barbie” doesn’t stop there. This Warner Bros. film has now crossed the $500 million milestone domestically and $657 million internationally, bringing its total global earnings to a remarkable $1.18 billion. With these numbers, “Barbie” has now become the second-highest grossing Warner Bros. film of all time, only falling behind the iconic “Harry Potter” series.

While “Barbie” continues to bask in the limelight, another much-anticipated film, “Sony’s Gran Turismo: Based on a True Story,” faced a different set of challenges. Due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, the film’s release was delayed, resulting in a limited international release in its first 30 markets. Despite the setbacks, “Gran Turismo” managed to earn $10.7 million internationally, proving the enduring popularity of the racing game franchise.

On the other hand, “The Last Voyage of the Demeter,” a chilling Dracula genre film co-produced by Amblin and Universal, experienced disappointment in its domestic opening, grossing a mere $6.5 million. Despite an intriguing concept and a budget of approximately $45 million, the film failed to resonate with audiences.

In a positive turn of events for female directors, Greta Gerwig, the creative mind behind “Barbie,” achieves new milestones. Gerwig has now become the highest-grossing female director of all time domestically, surpassing the record previously held by “Frozen II.” She also secures the title of highest-grossing female director of a live-action movie worldwide, overtaking “Captain Marvel.” Her remarkable achievements emphasize the growing impact and recognition of women in the film industry.

Director Christopher Nolan’s latest masterpiece, “Oppenheimer,” continues to captivate audiences worldwide. In its fourth weekend, the film earned an impressive $18.8 million domestically, contributing to a remarkable global total of $649 million. With these figures, “Oppenheimer” solidifies its place as Nolan’s fifth-highest grossing film, further cementing his reputation as a visionary director.

In other box office news, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” claimed the third spot in its second weekend, grossing $15.8 million domestically and accumulating a total of $72.8 million. While the sequel to the popular franchise performed well, “Meg 2: The Trench” faced some challenges, falling behind its predecessor in terms of domestic box office performance. However, the film is compensating for this setback with a strong international showing, amassing a foreign total of $202.8 million.

It is worth noting that the ongoing strikes by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA had a severe impact on the promotion and overall success of several summer films, including “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” “Meg 2: The Trench,” and “The Last Voyage of Demeter.” These strikes disrupted marketing efforts and hindered the films’ potential to attract audiences.

Aside from these box office highlights, other films that made the top 10 include Disney’s “Haunted Mansion,” A24’s “Talk to Me,” and Angel Studios’ “Sound of Freedom.” Each film achieved its respective box office performance, engaging a diverse range of audiences.

The box office landscape continues to evolve as audience preferences and external factors shape the success of films. As the year progresses, it’ll be intriguing to witness how upcoming releases fare in this ever-changing dynamic.
